Pair of Japanese color woodblock prints on paper by Hasegawa Sadanobu III, published by Uchida Art Co., Ltd., Kyoto. The labels identify the subjects as "Maiko Girl, in Snow" (NW-24) and "Maiko Girl, Washing Hand" (NW-14). The first depicts a standing maiko carrying a parasol before snow-covered architecture; the second depicts a kneeling maiko at a stone water basin in a garden. Each bears a printed Sadanobu signature and Uchida edition seal. Both are presented under glass with pale mats in matching black frames.

ARTIST / CREATOR BIOGRAPHY
Hasegawa Sadanobu III (1881-1963) was a Japanese print artist born in Osaka and the third generation of a family of ukiyo-e designers. Born Nobutaro, he trained under his father, Hasegawa Sadanobu II, and began working under the art name Konobu III before succeeding to the Sadanobu name in 1940. Working from the late Meiji era through the mid-Showa period, Sadanobu carried Osaka's theatrical print tradition into the twentieth century. He designed images of kabuki actors and bunraku puppet dramas, historical subjects, and elegant women, combining established ukiyo-e themes with the crisp color and modern presentation associated with shin hanga. His early career also included frontispiece illustrations for popular literature. Sadanobu worked with publishers including Uchida in Kyoto, whose workshops brought traditional Japanese woodblock imagery to domestic and international audiences. His compositions are distinguished by poised figures, richly patterned textiles, controlled line, and a decorative balance between costume and setting. Museum collections preserve his work as part of the continuing story of Japanese printmaking across the Meiji, Taisho, and Showa eras.
