ARTIST / CREATOR BIOGRAPHY
Margaret "Peggy" Davies was a British ceramic modeller whose career became closely associated with Royal Doulton's figure production in Burslem, Staffordshire. She joined the company in 1939 and, following the wartime interruption, helped carry its established figurine tradition into the postwar era.

Davies created more than 250 figure designs, drawing inspiration from fashion, dance, childhood, literature, historical dress, and notable women. Her models are distinguished by carefully observed costume, expressive gestures, and a strong sense of movement, often conveyed through sweeping skirts and poised compositions. Society ladies, ballerinas, children, musicians, and international subjects all formed part of her varied body of work.

Among her most ambitious exhibition pieces was The Marriage of Art and Industry, created for the 1958 Brussels World's Fair. Davies continued designing for Royal Doulton for several decades before pursuing independent ceramic work with her family. Her figures remain recognizable for their graceful silhouettes, narrative character, and assured translation of fabric and gesture into sculpted ceramic form.
