Lot 5503 AFRICAN TRIBAL SWORD.
Overall length is 26 1/2". Blade is 21" long. It is difficult to assign a country of origin for this sword. It resembles swords from Ethiopia as well as Cameroon and perhaps places in between. The single fullered blade has a deep curve, likely for reaching around armor. The iron blade has etched geometric decoration with gilded highlights. The unique hilt appears to be horn and is topped by a flared two-ear pommel with inset brass discs. No scabbard. CONDITION: blade has a dark patina but blade decoration is still easily discernible. Horn shows wear but is structurally solid. PROVENANCE: Estate Collection of Nicholas Apergis. (02-24787/BF). NON-GUN. $400-600.
