^Lot 5484 RARE & FINE 19TH CENTURY MEXICAN ARTILLERY SWORD.

26" overall, wide meaty 21" upswept clip point blade, Mexican unit markings stamped on ricasso, solid cast brass spiral handle with D-guard. The scabbard is brass sheathed leather, two 9" forged cannon vent picks are fitted into integral pockets below large iron frog button. This is the possibly the only example surviving of a rare Mexican War era artilleryman's sword. CONDITION: very good overall, gray blade has good point, light pitting, markings good, scabbard is sound, exposed leather scuffed & supple, iron tip, frog button, & vent picks have dark iron patina. PROVENANCE: estate collection of Compton LaBauve, Jr. (02-26467-2/JS). NON-GUN. $1,500-2,500.
