Lot 5303 STATE OF NY MARKED US MODEL 1819 FLINTLOCK PISTOL

BY S. NORTH. Cal. 54. Over 20,000 model 1819 pistols were produced by S. North in Middletown, CT from 1819-23. This smoothbore pistol is fitted with a 10" bbl that has a brass blade front sight, "JDJ/P/US" inspection proof, & "S.N.Y" on the top of the bbl. The tang carries the oval shaped rear sight. The lock of this model is the first US martial pistol to be fitted with the sliding hammer safety bolt at the rear of the hammer. It is marked with the standard "S.NORTH / US EAGLE / MDLTN CONN" with 1822 date. This model also introduced the the swivel steel ramrod for the first time to US martial pistols. Iron mounts. The walnut stock has traces of the inspector cartouche ring remaining. CONDITION: Overall good. The metal has a balanced grey patina with crisp markings and some pitting. Stock has some dents and handling marks with a small tight crack at the sideplate. Bore is dark with pitting. (01-29206/ZAL) ANTIQUE $1500-2250
