Lot 2131 FINE, DEC. 1918 COLT U.S. M1911 "BLACK ARMY" SEMI

AUTO PISTOL. Cal. 45 ACP. S# 545739. Mfg. Dec. 1918 during the Armistice of WWI. The "Black Army" term came from the dark brushed blued finish applied on the frame & slide. Per "U.S. Pistols & Revolvers 1909-1945" by J.C. Harrison, this pistol appears to have all correct era parts including Colt Type 5 barrel & dbl. diamond checkered walnut grips. MAGS: 1 two ton 7 rd.; shows oxidation & light pitting. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: Western Mfg. co. holster with thong in good condition showing mildew, verdigris & wear. CONDITION: approx. 40% original rough blue finish mixing with brown patina along with scratches. Frame has approx. 60% original finish with grips protecting a large portion. Handling points of frame & mainspring housing shows brown/gray patina appearance with slide lock scratches & handling marks. Good appearing grips with sm. chipping around screws & handling marks. Grip screw show good appearing blue with 1 showing light distortion. Barrel shows approx. 80% original blue finish with cycling wear & some brown patina spots; good rifling with frosting in grooves.
