Item/Description: Japanese Satsuma-style baluster vase, Showa-period, circa mid-20th century. Of classic baluster form with a flared trumpet neck and ringed foot. Decorated in the Satsuma taste, featuring hand-painted polychrome enamels and raised moriage detailing against a blue geometric lattice ground. The primary decorative program consists of cloud-shaped cartouches on a pale yellow field, depicting perching birds amongst blossoming peonies and lush foliage. The surrounding body is further embellished with fluttering butterfly motifs and a patterned neck border. This piece represents the mid-century Orientalist export tradition, blending traditional Japanese decorative elements with a profusely colorful aesthetic. Base is marked with a red-square artist's seal and stamped "JAPAN," identifying it as a high-quality mid-century export ware.
