Lot 100 Japanese Satsuma Moriage Vase

Item/Description: Japanese Satsuma moriage vase with stand dating to the Meiji Period, circa 1868-1912. Earthenware vase featuring a distinctive multi-lobed, ruffled rim, and extensive moriage (raised enamel) decoration. The ovoid body is densely embellished with a complex "brocade" ground, featuring overlapping fan-shaped pictorial panels depicting traditional mountain landscapes and a powerful, high-relief ascending dragon. The neck is further ornamented with large sculptural floral blossoms and foliage. The vessel is supported by an attached base elevated on sculpted shishi (guardian lion) feet.
