Winold Reiss (1886-1953) was a German-American modernist known for integrating bold, saturated colors and stylized forms into landscapes, particularly of the American West and New York surroundings. While primarily famous for portraiture, his landscapes often echo the modernist style of Oscar Bluemner or Marsden Hartley.
Artist info label adhered to back from Franz Hanfstaengl, NYC. Franz Hanfstaengl (German, 1804-1877) established a significant presence in New York City, specifically on Fifth Avenue, in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. (Braxton Art Company Framer).
