Lot 11 Gino Hollander 1973 Abstract Oil Painting
Item/Description: Abstract oil on canvas painting by New Jersey artist Gino Hollander (American, 1924–2015). The work features a bold and fluid style, similar to Franz Kline's work, with energetic mark-making, utilizing both angular palette knife work, thin washes, and drips of paint. The painting utilizes white, browns, black, and muted yellows, for a bold abstract piece. Signed and dated "73" in lower left.
Eugene F. Hollander or Gino Hollander was an American painter. He began as a filmmaker along with his wife Barbara Hollander before he started painting in New York City during the abstract expressionism movement. In the early 60s, he had his studio and the first Hollander Gallery on Bleecker Street, in Greenwich Village where he famously sold his paintings to the likes of Jacqueline Kennedy, Steve McQueen, Norman Rockwell, and Ralph Lauren.
