Lot 246 Remington-Elliot N0. 2 Derringer .32 RF SN: 10079
Remington made these ring-trigger, four-barrel, "Pepperbox" repeating derringers in .32 caliber from 1863 to 1888. Production is estimated at around 17,500 in .32 Cal. The 3 1/4" barrel assembly tilts forward for loading or extracting cartridges. The ring trigger made it hard to tangle up in a pocket or fire by accident and actuates a rotating firing pin that moves to the next round as it is pulled. Barrel lock lever in on the underside of the barrels. The right channel of the barrel assembly is marked, “Elliot’s Patents. May 29. 1860 – Oct. 1. 1861.” The left channel reads: “Manufactured by E. Remington & Sons. Ilion. N.Y.” The gutta Percha grip panels are excellent. Retains about 45% original blue, mostly on the barrels with blue in protected areas on the frame with handling wear. mechanically excellent, the bores are overall very good/bright with a few very minor patches of pin-prick pitting. Makings are clear.
